Scales Tarn & Sharp Edge - Blencathra

Uldale Fells from Binsey
Skiddaw & Derwentwater
Carlisle Castle

The Old Rectory in Boltongate is in a perfect location for those who prefer to be away from the hustle and bustle of the busier parts of the Lake District. We are located right on the northern edge of the National Park, yet we are only a 20 minute drive from the bustling market town of Keswick and 30 minutes from historic Carlisle to the North, with its castle, cathedral and the reknowned Tullie House Museum.

The Northern Fells are a lesser known part of the Lake District, but there are some stunning scenary and walks to be had. All of the hills at the back of Skiddaw and Blencathra are within easy reach and there are many more gentle walks around the local Uldale & Bassenthwaite area. The Lakes of Bassenthwaite and Derwentwater for watersports are also a short drive away.

The picturesque village of Caldbeck is approximately 8 miles away with its pretty houses and floral gardens, restored watermill at Priests Mill with restaurant and craft shops and lovely riverside walks.

Bassenthwaite and Uldale are typical Lakeland villages and just a couple of miles from Boltongate. Both have excellent village pubs serving real ale and good food.
