Boltongate Old Rectory is in a perfect location for those who prefer to be away from the busier parts of the Lake District. It is located right on the northern edge of the National Park, yet only a 20 minute drive from the bustling market towns of Keswick and Cockermouth and 30 minutes from historic Carlisle, to the North, with its castle, cathedral and the renowned Tullie House Museum.

The Northern Fells are a quieter part of the Lake District, with beautiful walks and stunning scenery. All of the hills at the back of Skiddaw and Blencathra are within easy reach and there are many more gentle walks around the local Uldale & Bassenthwaite area.

For the more energetic the lakes of Bassenthwaite and Derwentwater offer a range of watersports and are also just a short drive away.

The picturesque village of Caldbeck, original home of the renowned huntsman John Peel, is approximately 7 miles away. With its pretty houses and floral gardens, restored watermill at Priests Mill, which now houses a café and craft shops, and lovely riverside walks, it's a great place to relax and potter.

Hadrian's Wall and the Scottish Borders are also within easy reach and for Golfers there is the renowned Links course at Silloth just 25 minutes away with stunning views of the coast.

Bassenthwaite and Uldale are typical Lakeland villages and both are just a few miles from Boltongate. They each have excellent village pubs serving real ale and good food.

If you enjoy real ale there is also the cooperatively owned Hesket Newmarket Brewery providing all the beers for The Old Crown pub which was the first in England to be owned by the villagers. You may even catch a glimpse of Chris Bonnington or Prince Charles there as both are regular visitors.

Rain or shine there is always something to do and we can lend you a large golf umbrella to keep out the rain (just in case). Wet clothes and boots can be dried in front of the Aga overnight ready for the next day's adventure.
